Six Areas of Wellness

Friendship Village recognizes six aspects of wellness, each of which contributes to a person's overall well-being. These "Areas of Wellness" include Social, Vocational, Emotional, Physical, Educational and Spiritual. Our Lifestyles programming is designed to offer choices of ways to engage in each Area of Wellness.

SOCIAL
Our Lifestyles team works closely with residents to develop a fun calendar of events. So whether you're interested in a meatball cook-off, taking trips or enjoying musical performances, your social calendar can always be full.

VOCATIONAL
While most Friendship Village residents are retired, many still find fulfillment in volunteering, both inside Friendship Village and in the larger community. So whether you're interested in volunteer forestry, making blankets for ailing or abused children or teaching a preschooler to fish, you'll find ways to put your time and talents to work for others.

EMOTIONAL
At a time of life when losses are all too common, it's good to be near people who can lift your spirits. Friendship Village offers many ways for people to connect, including support groups and opportunities to understand other cultures. It's true — life IS better among friends.

PHYSICAL
With close access to state-of-the-art aquatic and fitness programming, many residents experience noticeable improvement in their physical well-being. Our exercise physiologists offer group classes and work one-on-one with residents to develop fitness programs customized to achieve their fitness goals.

EDUCATIONAL
It's true — use it or lose it. Keeping the brain stimulated pays off with proven health benefits — and it's fun! You'll find plenty of lifelong learning opportunities at Friendship Village, including programs offered in conjunction with Harper College and Roosevelt University and seminars on a range of interesting topics. You also can take part in discussion groups and practical seminars on subjects like fall prevention and diabetes management.

SPIRITUAL
One of the most deeply fulfilling aspects of life at Friendship Village is its spiritual programming, coordinated by our two resident chaplains. You can take part in daily morning prayer, sing in the Friendship Village Choir, study religious works and take part in a host of other offerings.
